This event aims to bring together marine scientists, policymakers, and industry leaders to explore the role of marine science in understanding the ecological, economic and social dimensions of offshore wind development and supporting related policies, to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), established in 2015, provide a global framework for addressing challenges like poverty, inequality, and climate change. SDG 14 (Life Below Water) focuses on ocean health and sustainable marine resource management. However, marine science plays a crucial role beyond SDG 14, contributing to goals such as SDG 7 (Clean Energy), SDG 8 (Economic Growth), and SDG 9 (Industry and Innovation), which all relate to offshore wind development.
The session will address how marine science has contributed to date to addressing the SDGs in relation to offshore wind development, as well as the future challenges for marine science and how we as ICES community can address them.
