ICES Annual Science Conference 2025

Gender equity in marine science

Join us to advance gender equality in marine science. This session aims to raise awareness, share valuable insights, and foster collaboration, creating a more inclusive and equitable community.

The International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) has recognized the importance of advancing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, and Accessibility (DEIJA) within the organization. In particular, Gender Equity is a critical component of achieving sustainable and inclusive scientific research, particularly in the field of marine science. ICES published a Gender Equality Plan in 2022 to address disparities and promote diversity within its community. Despite these efforts, significant challenges remain in fully integrating gender perspectives into marine science research and policy-making.

To advance this agenda, this session is focused on making real progress on ICES Gender Plan as well as improving the knowledge of intersectionality as a critical research lens to collectively reflect relevant gender issues within the broader ICES network.
