Helen M. Rozwadowski

Dr. Helen M. Rozwadowski is Professor of History and founder of the Maritime Studies program at the University of Connecticut. She has authored three books and edited seven volumes, including The Sea Knows No Boundaries (2002), a history of the International Council for the Exploration of the Seas (ICES), Fathoming the Ocean (2005), awarded the History of Science Society’s Davis Prize, and Vast Expanses: A History of the Oceans (2018), translated into Chinese and Korean. Her recent work includes the virtual exhibition Oceans in Three Paradoxes. Her research has been supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities, National Science Foundation, Smithsonian Institution, and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

Szymon Smolinski

Dr. Szymon Smoliński is an Associate Professor at the National Marine Fisheries Research Institute in Gdynia, Poland. His research focuses on fish ecology, using otoliths as ecological indicators, spatial modeling of fish distribution, population dynamics, and climate change impacts, with recent work on pelagic species in the Baltic Sea. He also applies bibliometric analyses to explore trends in scientific literature. A recipient of the Polish Minister of Science scholarship and a Baltic Fellow of the Björn Carlsons Foundation, he is an active member of the ICES community and serves on working groups, the ICES Scientific Committee, and as an editor of the ICES Journal of Marine Science.

Alexandra Schneider

Alexandra Schneider is a fisheries ecologist studying the impacts of anthropogenic activities on fish and invertebrate life history and population dynamics, with a focus on climate‑ready fisheries management. Previously, she worked at the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management on the impacts of offshore wind development on fisheries and benthic habitat. She values research that informs policy, science communication, and public engagement. Alex is a member of the editorial board of the ICES Journal of Marine Science through the Early Career Scientist Mentorship Program and holds a PhD from the Virginia Institute of Marine Science.

Howard I. Browman

Howard I. Browman earned degrees from McGill University and the University of Kansas and joined the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research in 1998. His research covers early life history ecology of fish, zooplankton and ichthyoplankton ecology, sensory ecology, and environmental stressors such as ocean acidification, ultraviolet radiation, and anthropogenic noise. He has published around 200 scientific articles and has played a leading role in scientific publishing for three decades. Howard has served as Editor‑in‑Chief of the ICES Journal of Marine Science since 2012 and received the ICES Outstanding Achievement Award in 2025.
