Early career scientists

Early career scientists can look forward to a programme of events in Brest that will broaden their knowledge as well as their ICES network.

​​U.S. Early Career Scientists Travel Funding

Travel funding has been made available by the National Science Foundation, the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) and the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES).

​ICES Early Career Participation Fund​​

The ICES Early Career Participation Fund will support authors presenting at the 2026 ICES Annual Science Conference.

This fund will be open to authors who fulfil the early-career scientist criteria, and who have had an abstract accepted to a theme session.  Early-career scientists are defined as being 35 years of age or under, working on a bachelors, masters, or PhD or having completed a PhD within the past five years, excluding periods of career interruption such as caring responsibilities.​

Submitted applications will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:
- The originality of work as shown in abstract.
- The significance of the work to one of the theme sessions.
