Bridging science and policy: Collaborative pathways in Marine Spatial Planning
As human activities at sea expand and climate change reshapes coastal and marine ecosystems, Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) has become an essential component of ocean governance. Effective MSP relies on robust scientific evidence to inform decision-making, yet bridging the gap between research and policy, at the interface of multiple maritime sectors and claims, remains a challenge. This round-table convenes representatives from diverse French administrations and research organizations to explore how science-policy interactions can strengthen MSP. We will seek to define what constitutes a successful science-based spatial planning policy, discuss critical knowledge needs and scientific roadblocks, as well as how different stakeholders utilize scientific results. Through specific case studies, participants will debate the barriers to effective knowledge uptake and propose solutions to enhance collaboration at the science-policy interface.
