U.S. Early Career Scientists Travel Funding

To promote U.S. academic involvement in ICES, the National Science Foundation (NSF) is providing travel funding for early career scientists from U.S. academic institutions who will present at the 2026 ICES Annual Science Conference (ASC) in Brest, France, on 15–18 September 2026.

When and How to Apply

To apply, eligible participants should email the following materials to the WHOI MPC Administrator, Alison Maksym ([email protected]) by 3 June 2026:

  • A copy of the accepted abstract for a 2026 ICES ASC theme session.
  • A short statement explaining their reasons for attending the ASC.
  • A current CV.​

Do not apply until you have received notification that your abstract is accepted​.

Award decisions will be communicated by 17 June 2026.

Important:
Awardees should register by 21 June 2026 to meet the early‑bird and presenter registration deadline.

Eligibility
Funding is available to:

  • Early career scientists from U​.S. academic institutions within seven years of receiving their Ph.D., with preference given to first‑time ICES participants.
  • Ph.D. graduate students.

Applicants must have an accepted abstract for at least one 2026 ICES ASC theme session.

Not eligible:
Scientists affiliated with government agencies or industry.

The grant is administered by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) and the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES).​​
