Oceanographic data submission

Guidance for submitting oceanographic data
The oceanographic database accepts data from different observation types - high resolution CTD, discrete water samples, thermosalinograph/ferry box, moorings and XBT data for a number of parameters:

Temperature, Salinity, Oxygen, total Phosphorus,  Phosphate, total Nitrogen, Nitrate, Nitrite, Ammonium, Silicate,  Hydrogen Sulphide, pH, Alkalinity and Chlorophyll a

As of July 2021, data are required in the primary submission format: ICES Oceanographic data submission format.

Data submitters already using the Environmental Reporting Format (ERF 3.2) for reporting discrete water samples (bottle) data including contaminants, can continue to do so.

A completed Cruise Summary Report (CSR) for each cruise is recommended.

The ICES Data and Information Group (DIG) has developed a set of
data type guidelines to assist those involved in the collection, processing, quality control and exchange of various types of physical oceanographic data.
