The Oceans Past Initiative (OPI) works to understand the past interactions of maritime societies with marine ecosystems, their influences upon ecosystem dynamics and health and repercussions on human systems.
OP2024 will cover topics, such as:
- scales of past exploitation/consumption patterns of living marine resources
- changing human-ocean interactions through time and their social-ecological consequences
- targets for ecosystem-based management
- societal benefits gained from healthy marine ecosystems
- trajectories and repercussions of management interventions on marine social-ecological systems
We will showcase efforts to enhance data availability and access in line with best practice.
OP2024 will continue the successful run of interdisciplinary meetings that bring together a growing global network of researchers to generate a fuller system understanding of our interactions with oceans through time, outcomes, and likely future trajectories of marine system health and societal needs.
