Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) are now recognised as vital instruments in marine planning and conservation. They equip individuals with the expertise needed to assess, mitigate, and manage the environmental impacts of development activities such as renewable energy projects, aggregate extraction, or dredging. The primary aim of this training is to ensure that progress does not come at the expense of the natural environment. With over 6,000 turbines already installed across Europe, it is more important than ever that such developments strictly adhere to the EIA Directive (Directive 2014/52/EU).
EIA courses are essential for a range of reasons—spanning social, ecological, legal, and economic domains. The course structure encompasses both theoretical foundations and real-world case studies, complemented by practical exercises that enable participants to apply their knowledge directly to EIA practice and future project planning.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Safeguard the environment by employing effective methods to reduce pollution, prevent habitat loss, and conserve resources.
- Understand and apply the principles of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG).
- Gain familiarity with the relevant legal and policy frameworks throughout all project phases, including planning, construction, operation, and decommissioning.
- Develop essential technical and analytical skills, such as data collection, GIS mapping, impact prediction modelling, and professional report writing.
- Promote public participation and transparency by utilising tools and strategies for successful stakeholder engagement.
Align EIA training objectives with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 11, 12, 13, and 15), ensuring that projects contribute positively to global sustainability targets.
Level
