The Workshop on Sampling Data for Northern Shelf cod sub-stocks (WKCODSAMPLING) is held in response to a special request from the United Kingdom, Norway and the European Commission (EC, DGMARE).
WKCODSAMPLING will build on the work initiated at the Workshop on Scoping Data collection for Northern Shelf cod sub-stocks (WKCODSCOPE) and will address several key topics:
- Review progress of the project GenDC since WKCODSCOPE focusing on the identification of genetic differences between the Northern shelf cod populations
- Outline how stock assessment models might use more detailed sub-stock data and identify what further assessment model developments and simulation testing is required,
- Assess progress on the use of alternative types of data to understand the sub-stock spatial dynamics throughout the year,
- Develop procedures for integrating genetic data in ICES databases, and
- Design a sampling design for a pilot survey for the Northern shelf cod complex.
The workshop will take place at ICES HQ in Copenhagen, Denmark as well as online. It will be co-chaired by Nicola Walker (UK), Jakob Hemmer-Hansen (Denmark), Liz Clarke (UK), and Côme Denechaud (Norway). The workshop will start on Monday 10 November and finish on Friday 14 November. WKCODSAMPLING will include plenary sessions, subgroup tasks, and report drafting sessions.
