The Workshop on Scoping Data collection for Northern Shelf cod sub-stocks (WKCODSCOPE) is held in response to a special request from the United Kingdom, Norway and the European Commission (EC, DGMARE).
WKCODSCOPE will address several topics to scope the Northern shelf cod sub-stock data needs:
- Summarize the current sub-stock definition for the Northern Shelf cod complex and review the progress of the project GenDC,
- Outline additional genetic data needs to further understand the sub-stock mixing throughout the year to facilitate the provision of advice which can guide area-specific management,
- Develop sampling strategies according to a partial or complete separation of northwestern and southern components of the Northern Shelf cod complex.
- Explore alternative stock discrimination techniques (otolith shape and microchemistry, tagging, drift-based, morphological or phenotypical data) and their potential to elucidate sub-stock spatial dynamics throughout the year.
The workshop will take place at ICES HQ in Copenhagen, Denmark as well as online. It will be co-chaired by Nicola Walker (UK) and Liz Clarke (UK). The workshop will start at 9 am on Tuesday 18 March and finish at 12h on Friday 21 March. WKCODSCOPE will include plenary sessions, subgroup tasks and report drafting sessions.
