Workshop 2 on TAF Templates for Stock Assessments

To provide robust and timely scientific advice for fisheries, ICES stock assessments need well written and tested code, with consistent implementation of methods that are easy for stock assessors to use. Building on the work of WKTSAT in 2025, WKTSAT2 will advance the development of standard Transparent Assessment Framework (TAF) templates for the two most widely used ICES stock assessment methods: state-space assessment models (SAM) and Stock Synthesis 3 (SS3).

WKTSAT2 aims to:

Develop a general code base for SAM and SS3 stock assessment templates, including input-file structures and model configurations.

Develop standard approaches for reporting stock assessment inputs and outputs, including diagnostics and quality assurance.

Provide complete and tested templates for SAM and SS3, applied to at least one example stock for each method.

Provide documentation to support the use, modification, and continued development of these templates within TAF.

These outputs will strengthen transparency, reproducibility, and consistency across ICES stock assessments and the ongoing development of TAF. To register for WKTSAT2, please fill out the form here.
