ICES Ecosystem Overviews are central products to support our ecosystem-based management approach, through providing the ecoregion context, identifying main pressures, associated human activities and impacts on ecosystem state. The process of designing the third generation of Ecosystem Overviews recently began (WKEO3 2019), with the identification of concrete steps and follow-up actions, one of which is WKTRANSPARENT.

This workshop will bring together scientists interested in contributing to and further advancing ICES Ecosystem Overviews, including those from the IEA groups and from various backgrounds, such as natural sciences, economic, and social sciences. This will allow taking an inclusive and comprehensive approach to ensure interdisciplinary contributions to Ecosystem Overviews.

WKTRANSPARENT will further strengthen the methodological and technical basis of Ecosystem Overviews, through proposing ways on how to link high-priority pressures to ecosystem functions and processes; developing guidelines for assessing and prioritizing among drivers, stressors and impacts; and adapting best practices to ensure transparency in assessments and communication of uncertainties in Ecosystem Overviews.
