The ratio estimation methods developed by the workshop will be used as estimation routines in ICES Regional Database & Estimation System (RDBES).
Currently, most countries use ratio estimators for their national estimation of commercial catch data. This workshop will ensure the ratio estimators correctly take into account the sampling design used to collect the data, and will progress the standardisation of the national estimation methods and their inclusion in the ICES Transparent Assessment Framework.
Our Working Group on Commercial Catches (WGCATCH) is working to produce best practice guidelines for choosing methods and variables used to analyse commercial sampling data. WGCATCH will evaluate the outcomes of this workshop prior to their incorporation as regular estimation routines in RDBES.
