The second Workshop on Participatory Modelling (WKPartMod2) will take place in Tromsø, Norway 17-19 March 2026. Its objective is to produce a practical guide on how to set up, conduct and review participatory modelling work within ICES.
This workshop follows from the Workshop on Participatory Modelling (WKParticipatoryModelling) held in 2024. During this first workshop, it was recognized that the absence of concrete guidance is a major hurdle that hinders the purposeful, impactful and sustained implementation of participatory modelling within ICES.
To address this issue, intersessional work was conducted, resulting in the development of an outline for a participatory modelling handbook. The handbook is conceived as a support for reflection on motivations and expected benefits of participatory modelling, identifying who should be involved and why, selecting tools and models that are best fit for purpose, and the overall planning and evaluation of the participatory modelling process. This intersessional work will continue online early in 2026, prior to WKPartMOd2 in March.
During WKPartMod2, participants will assemble and review the draft chapters of the handbook and produce the finalized document. Experts with prior experience in participatory modelling, and/or skills in writing a practical handbook and producing supporting graphics, are encouraged to register.
The workshop is planned to be primarily attended in-person. Hybrid participation for part of the workshop will be possible. Registration deadline is 15 February 2026. Please find the registration link on the right.
