The Workshop to compile evidence on the impacts of offshore renewable energy on fisheries and marine ecosystems (WKCOMPORE) is held in response to a special request from the European Commission (EC, DGMARE).
Building up from intersessional work, WKCOMPORE will address several topics:
- Data and Resources: Assess available data for analyzing the economic and social impacts of ORE on fisheries
- Ecological Impacts: Study effects on marine ecosystems, including changes in phytoplankton, fish species, and potential habitat shifts
- Cumulative Impact Modeling: Develop methods to evaluate combined impacts of ORE on fisheries and recommend mitigation strategies
The workshop will take place at ICES HQ in Copenhagen, Denmark as well as online. It will be co-chaired by Andreas Kannen (Germany), Jan Vanaverbeke (Belgium), and Katell Hamon (Netherlands), who - together with a core group of experts - have prepared the material for the workshop. The workshop will include plenary sessions and subgroup tasks.
