Workshop on Reviewing Baltic Surveys to Support Ecosystem-based Management Advice

The ecosystem in the Baltic Sea is changing. The research surveys primarily serve stock assessment goals. It is important to have a list of data requirements, inluding the level of relevance/obligation for fisheries and ecosystem management.

Reflection on this list from a survey perspective is key to align data collection with data needs, and to create a development plan for the survey or even monitoring programme in the Baltic. The workshop consists of three elements: 2 workshops back to back (in person or online) in January, with 1.5 hour overlap, and one day (online) on a date to be decided in February/March.

The workshop aims to deliver an overview of current data use, as well as new data requirements (workshop part 1), and insight in the options to collect those data withing existing monitoring.

For Workshop part 1, 26 January 13.00-28 January 14.30 current and future end-users (stock assessment, ecosystem) of fisheries independent surveys in the Baltic (WGBFAS, WGIAB, WGECOBAL) are invited to take part.

For Workshop part 2, 28 January 13.00-30 January 14.30 survey experts from the Baltic surveys (BITS, BIAS, BASS, GRAHS) are welcomed.

In Workshop part 3 all participants are welcomed to create a final document with end-user requirements, and the ways to meet those (or not), and to define strategy and roadmap to find funding/expertise/personnel/shiptime to meet the requirements.
