The Working Group on Oceanographic Data Governance (WGOceanDataGov) will play a crucial role in enhancing the management, accessibility, and utility of oceanographic data within ICES and for collaborating organizations. The ICES oceanographic database holds a wealth of oceanographic data dating from 1877 to the present.
The mission of the newly established WGOceanDataGov is to ensure that this wealth of oceanographic data is effectively governed and can be utilized to support robust scientific advice. The working group will work on:
- Maintaining and enhancing the existing governance platform for end-user feedback to the Oceanography Data Portal;
- Advising on recommendations and requests related to the oceanographic database and portal;
- Providing insights into the data and data products derived from the oceanographic database;
- Coordinating development of user guidance and training for the Oceanography Data Portal.
