Ocean data supplied by operational models, in-situ observational platforms, and satellites has reached a mature state, and tailored services based on this information are in high demand. WGOOFE assists ICES in navigating the plethora of online databases by engaging directly with ICES expert groups that require access to and tailor-made operational oceanographic datasets for integrated ecosystem and fisheries assessments and for aquaculture applications.
The group develops showcase applications of operational oceanographic products in ICES assessments, produces fact sheets with the oceanographic products and indicators and participates in ICES workshops where oceanographic products are in demand. Together with another oceanographic expert group, the Working Group on Oceanic Hydrography (WGOH), WGOOFE promotes the uptake of oceanographic products in ICES ecosystem and fisheries assessments and contributes towards bridging the gap that exists between oceanography and these assessments.
