ICES Journal of Marine Science

History

Disseminating marine science since 1926.

From 1926 to 1991, what is now known as ICES Journal of Marine Science, was published as the Journal du Conseil. The Journal du Conseil was a continuation of the Publications de Circonstance series, which first appeared in 1903.

In 1991, the title of the series was changed to ICES Journal of Marine Science (with the subtitle Journal du Conseil). Handling of the publication was contracted to Academic Press, which became an Elsevier imprint in 2001. Elsevier published the Journal until 2006, whereafter, in 2007, publishing was taken over by Oxford University Press. The current Editor-in-Chief is Dr. Howard I. Browman.

From 1927 until 1991 (Volumes 2–48), there were three issues to a volume; from 1992 until 1994 (Volumes 49–51), four issues; from 1995 until 2003 (Volumes 52–60), six issues; from 2004 until 2005 (Volume 61–62), eight issues; from 2006 to present (Volume 63–), nine issues.

ICES Symposia proceedings have been included as special numbers since 1995. The manuscript submission process is the same for symposia issues and regular issues. Copies can be ordered from the ICES Secretariat.
