Colm Lordan previously served as Vice-Chair of the Advisory Committee (ACOM) from 2018–2020. On his appointment, Lordan said, “I am honoured and delighted to be taking up the role of chair of ICES Advisory Committee. My tenure comes at a time of accelerating pace of change and increasing anthropogenic pressures on marine ecosystems. I believe ICES is well placed and will respond effectively to address the existing and emerging advisory needs of policymakers and managers. I very much look forward to working with, and leading, ACOM as we generate state-of-the-art evidence-based advice to meet conservation, management, and sustainability goals".
Lordan has been based at Marine Institute in Galway, Ireland for more than two decades, working to develop the best available integrated scientific advice, evidence and information for decision-makers. He notes that ecosystem-based management, climate change, offshore renewables, and maintaining high quality fisheries advice will be among his main priorities.
Lordan takes the reigns from Mark Dickey-Collas who has been in the role since 2018. Dickey-Collas remarked, "I worked closely with Colm when he was a Vice-Chair of ACOM and he was dedicated, insightful, and a bridge-builder. I have high hopes for ACOM under his leadership".
Colm will begin his initial 3-year term on 1 December 2023.
Congratulations on your appointment Colm. ICES community looks forward to working alongside you and the continued excellence of ICES Advisory Committee under your guidance.
