This 5-day course will concentrate on Close-Kin Mark-Recapture for commercial and bycatch species in fisheries. It is aimed at experienced stock assessment modelers and statisticians: people who could, in principle, write their own code for basic age-structured stock-assessment and/or mark-recapture.
The main aspects will be:
- scope and principles of CKMR
- CKMR for various scenarios, some easy, some tricky, some impossible: concepts thru to basic code
- selected real-world applications
- design: qualitative and quantitative aspects
- key aspects of genetics and kin-finding (but note this is not a genetics course)
- potential applications as suggested by participants: discussion and schematic models
Duration
5 days
Max number of attendees
30 people (in-person only)
Pre-requisites
- knowing how to program your own functions in R (not just running other people's)
- preferably: experience of writing and fitting your own population-dynamics model, or complex mark-recapture model
