The benchmark workshop on selected sea bass stocks (WKBSEABASS) will evaluate:
bss.27.4bc7ad-h; Sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) in divisions 4.b–c, 7.a, and 7.d–h (central and southern North Sea, Irish Sea, English Channel, Bristol Channel, and Celtic Sea); WGCSE
bss.27.8ab; Sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) in divisions 8.a–b (northern and central Bay of Biscay); WGBIE
WKBSEABASS was preceded by a stock ID workshop, the report for which was published in 2023.
ICES benchmark processes are organized to evaluate (and propose improvements to) the current data and assessment methodology for selected stocks and non-fishery topics for which ICES provides recurrent advice outside the annual assessment cycle.
The goal of a benchmark is to achieve consensus agreement on an assessment methodology that can be regarded as the ‘best available’ method to be used in future update assessments.
