A shift towards the more complex ecosystem questions being asked of ICES requires a broader coordination of data collection.
This workshop will consider how Ecosystem observation steering group (EOSG) expert groups can enhance communication within the steering group and create a more integrated information flow between data collection and advisory processes.
Due to the methodological focus of data collection, communication can be difficult between data users and the wider data collection community spread over many existing EGs. WKREO will critically assess if a new steering group structure could more effectively transfer the information to data users and potentially improve the cooperation between data collectors, while providing the opportunity to rejuvenate the scientific interest and develop new skills and expertise in these groups.
WKREO will review the tasks of EOSG/ data collection groups in the context of the new ICES science and advisory processes in a bid to increase their efficiency and effectiveness, providing an opportunity to develop more effective ways to support ICES.
EOSG is a complex network closely intertwined with the advisory network. Reorganization is likely to have some impact on these interactions particularly concerning timing of reporting and report content. A detailed evaluation and identification of solutions for specific issues is necessary.
Participation is invited from a broad spectrum of data collectors, the data collection coordination expert groups, as well as a representation of data users that rely on the data collection for their advisory and science purposes.
