ICES is revolutionizing the way scientific organizations work by developing an online tool for creating memorable expert group names. The application makes it possible to produce catchy scientific names and acronyms for working groups, workshops, and alike with a mere press of a button.
"We all know how time consuming it is to come up with a sensible title and acronym for your working group. This tool will make that tedious task so much easier," says Anne Christine Brusendorff, ICES General Secretary.
"The tool is available on our website in order for other organizations to take advantage of it as well," continues Brusendorff, adding that more work is in the pipeline for navigating the world of group acronyms.
"Our aim is to develop a full strategic plan relating to the production, integration and eventual assessment of working group acronyms. Whilst there are only so many letters in the alphabet, we have a massive amount of data available on the potential ordering and usage of these. We hope people will draw on our resources, one letter at a time."
