PANDORA's Toolbox

Social Science

Human activities and decisions play a vital role in how fisheries in different European regions are managed and how target species are affected by this management.

In order to better understand the societal dynamics underlying local and regional fisheries management, social scientific research was undertaken into the socio-economics of fishing and its management, the profitability of different fleets, seafood marketing systems, as well as Economic, sociocultural and ecological dimensions.

PANDORA was in the midst of its cooperation with stakeholders from the fishing sector when the COVID-19 pandemic arose. Therefore, in addition to this fisheries-related social scientific research, we investigated how EU research projects were affected by the pandemic in their efforts to engage with stakeholders, and how the results of such exchange were influenced by social distancing measures.
