Make an impact on fisheries science - develop assessment methods for data-limited stocks

ICES is looking for participants for a workshop developing assessment methods for data-limited stocks (DLS).
Published: 10 October 2014

ICES is working to develop assessment methods for the more than 60% of fish stocks that are data-limited, i.e. without analytical models. As part of this process, the Workshop on the Development of Quantitative Assessment Methodologies based on Life-history traits, exploitation characteristics, and other relevant parameters for data-limited stocks (WKLIFE 4) will meet in Lisbon, Portugal 27–31 October.

WKLIFE will review a technical report on data-poor methods by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and further investigate appropriate methods with respect to the ICES data-limited stock approach.

An explanation of the ICES data limited stock approach is described in chapter 1 of the General context for ICES advice.

If you are interested in participating or want to find out more, please contact Anne Cooper, Advisory Professional Officer at the ICES Secretariat by 17 October 2014.
