Meet others within the ICES community who also work on issues around Natura 2000 to discuss problems and solutions.
Programme
16:30 Introduction
The aim of this network session is to bring together people working on marine Natura 2000 sites, species protection and impact assessments. You will exchange knowledge and solutions to help progress the Natura 2000 process at sea.
16:40 Speed dating
You will be sent on 3-minute speed dates to get to know each other. Take one of the props provided, bring it to a Natura 2000 area on the map, and meet others. Discuss your problems and solutions, for example:
- Improving selectivity: avoidance of protected species (Habitat Directive, Bird Directive, OSPAR)
- Impact of less studied fishing gears (e.g. flyshoot, otter trawl, etc.) on N2000 areas
- Future monitoring techniques: eDNA, acoustics, video camera, photoID, machine learning
- Setting Favorable Reference Values (species, habitats)
17:10 Teams
In the next step, you will form teams. If you were granted €2 million Euros to solve an urgent N2000 issue, what would you solve first? Define a project proposal (see list above).
17:20 Shark tank
Each team gives a pitch. Project are judged.
