Travel funding
Travel funds for early career scientists
Limited travel funds are available for early career scientists from ICES member countries. First-time participation at the ASC is especially encouraged.
To be eligible for funds, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- have an accepted abstract for ASC 2024
- be 35 years of age or younger OR have completed their PhD within the last five years
- have an affiliation with one of ICES Member Countries
Submitted applications will be assessed based on the following criteria:
- originality of work as shown in abstract
- significance of the work to one of the theme sessions
Deadline for applications: 1 June 2024

Workshop on graphic design for scientific visual communication
Sunday 08 September 13:00–18:00
Join us for a workshop where you will improve your skills in graphic design for scientific visual communication. The workshop will consist of two sessions:
Session 1: Good graphic design practice
Session 2: Creating figures using Adobe Illustrator
No specialist equipment or experience of Adobe Illustrator is required, but participants should bring a laptop computer with a mouse or trackpad.
This event has a limited capacity. Registration is necessary.

Many early career scientists, especially those attending the ASC for the first time, have a lot of questions about how to become a member of ICES community and why!

ASC mentor programme
Are you attending ASC for the first time? Our mentors can help you to get to know ICES and the people in our network.
What does the mentor programme offer?
- A personal introduction to the workings of ICES as an organization
- A discussion group with your peers about the work being presented at the ASC
- An excellent networking opportunity as you are introduced to various new colleagues and find out how you can become more involved in the work of ICES
