Dr. Garrod, former UK Delegate to ICES (1989–1994) and former Director of the Fisheries Laboratory at Lowestoft (1989–1994), died 9 December 2017 at his home at age 83.
A funeral service was held 29 December at which time Dr. Colin Bannister, former chair of the ICES Consultative Committee offered a tribute to his former colleague at Lowestoft. Dr. Emory D. Anderson, former ICES General Secretary, penned a brief overview of his interactions with Garrod in the former ICNAF and in ICES.
Garrod was a highly respected fisheries scientist who specialized in stock assessments and who was known for his skills in consensus-making and formulating fisheries management advice both in ICES and in international regulatory commissions such as ICNAF.
