ICES Strategic Initiative on Integration of Early Career Scientists (SIIECS) was established in 2021 to promote ICES among early-career scientists (ECS) in the global marine science community and to encourage the participation of ECS within ICES. One of SIIECS' key achievements has been the inclusion of an ECS as a keynote speaker at the Annual Science Conference (ASC) since 2022.
SIIECS is delighted to announce the call for nominations for the ECS keynote speaker at the 2027 ICES Annual Science Conference. Scheduled for 27–30 September in Copenhagen, Denmark, ASC 2027 offers a fantastic platform to deliver an inspiring keynote.
SIIECS asks the ICES community to nominate candidates who demonstrate excellence in their field and can captivate the audience with an engaging presentation.
A unique platform
This is an exceptional opportunity for an ECS to present their research, build their career, and engage with the marine science community. Last year's edition of this initiative brought us an inspiring keynote by Llúcia Mascorda-Cabre, Researcher at the University of Plymouth: Ropes to Reefs: A multi-trophic level approach to inform management and policy .
“As an early career, it's rare to have the opportunity to be a keynote speaker in a conference like ICES ASC, which has such international scope and influence", reflects Mascorda-Cabre , "I learnt about ICES and its work during my BSc degree, and since then, I have dreamt of being part of this organization and the science it produces. It has been an incredible honour to present my work here, marking it a key milestone in my career. It has been an amazing challenge and a remarkable experience!"
Nominations will close at midnight on 25 September 2026. The selected candidate will be contacted within one month of the nomination deadline and will have one week to confirm their availability.
