Vacancy for Head of Finance

​We are seeking a visionary and innovative leader for our Finance Department who can develop and implement integrated accounting practices.

We are looking to fill this position located in Copenhagen, Denmark as soon as possible but no later than 1 May 2020.

​Key responsibilities

As the Head of Finance, you will report to the General Secretary and be part of the management group in ICES Secretariat. We expect you to be a constructive sparring partner for the General Secretary and the management team. You will ensure coherent financial administration and efficient processes internally and with our cooperation partners. The Head of Finance has responsibility over the ICES budget, as well as promoting quality assured and effective financial administration. 

Your further responsibilities will include:  

  • financial oversight and administration of a budget of 50 Million DKK in accordance with ICES procedures and various donor guidelines
  • presenting management with options and consequences for use in their decisions on optimal use of the budget
  • representing ICES in financial negotiations with cooperation partners (clients)
  • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) – optimizing the use of different components of ICES accounting system (Agresso) with a focus on ongoing optimization and development of financial and administrative processes
  • overseeing and executing operational financial administration
  • leading a team of two Finance Officers

Expected qualifications and competencies

We are looking for an experienced finance professional, with a proven background of senior financial/administrative management, ideally within an international public environment. To be a success in this role, you should have:

  • extensive skills with ERP systems, budget preparations, financial accounting, and auditing
  • experience with EU and international project accounting, auditing and reporting practices
  • track record of effective and relevant work experience (hands-on within financial accounting and controlling), including  experience from working with management
  • solid collaboration and networking skills and strong communication skills in oral and written English

​Terms of appointment

The appointment will be full-time (38 hours per week), for an initial three year contract period, with a possibility of extension.

ICES Secretariat staff enjoy privileges and immunities pursuant to the Host Agreement between the Government of Denmark and ICES. As this role is a management position, the salary for the Head of Finance is situated at the “P4" grade. The salaries of ICES staff are exempt from Danish income tax and based on, but not identical to, the United Nations common salary system. Furthermore, a tax-free pension scheme is available, to which both the employee and ICES contribute.
