Vacancy: Finance Officer

We are currently in search of a Finance Officer who will join our team and support with the work carried out in the Secretariat, located in Copenhagen, Denmark.

ICES has an annual revenue of approximately DKK 50 million, from three main financial incomes: annual contributions by our 20 member countries, payments by scientific advice requesters, and project participation. To ensure proper financial handling, well-documented accounting processes are required.

Besides you, the team consists of another Finance Officer, and is led by the Head of Finance and Administration.​

Key Responsibilities:

  • Handling the day to day bookkeeping as well as reconciliations, invoicing and payments
  • Processing travel expenditures
  • Settling VAT cases, including the refund of electricity and energy taxes
  • Carrying out supportive tasks for the Head of Finances and Administration as required​
  • Supporting the development of new financial accounting processes
  • Financial controlling, including contacts to funding organizations and reporting projects, as well as assisting with providing materials for auditing purposes

Expected qualifications and competencies:

We are looking for an enthusiastic finance professional, with the following qualifications and experiences:

  • Degree in finance accounting from an accredited educational institution related to administration or business management

  • A minimum of five years of relevant working experience in finance

  • Working experience with Microsoft Office package and an Enterprise Resource Planning system- an interest to develop integrated management of main business processes will be an ​asset

  • Excellent accounting skills as well as experience with reporting for various clients. Knowledge of reporting to EU institutions will be an asset

  • Strong desire to be part of an international and diverse organization

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • Good knowledge of spoken and written English​

Terms of appointment

The appointment will be full-time (38 hours per week including lunch breaks), for an initial four-year contract period, with the possibility of renewal in four-year increments. The individual selected for this position should start in 1 October 2019 or as soon as possible.

ICES Secretariat staff enjoy privileges and immunities pursuant to the Host Agreement between the Government of Denmark and ICES. The salaries of ICES staff are exempt from Danish income tax and the salary for this role is at the “C6” grade, which is based on the United Nations common salary system.

Furthermore, a tax-free pension scheme is available, to which both the employee and ICES contribute. ICES Staff Rules set out the conditions and principles of employment and the responsibilities of the staff of the Secretariat.
