1. The Workshop on Atlantic chub mackerel (Scomber colias) (WKCOLIAS2) collates and analyses the available information for the species in order to describe its population structure along the European Central East Atlantic.
2. The group explores the use of different kinds of information (both from commercial fisheries and from scientific surveys) and the relation of these data with oceanographic variables, to propose a reliable population distribution and identify potential connections throughout the northwest African waters (where chub mackerel is a very important fishery resource) and the western Mediterranean Sea.
3. The work of the group aims at supporting the necessary scientific basis for a future populations' status assessment of a species which is gaining importance in European Atlantic waters, probably in relation to the Climate Change.
