The workshop will provide the basis for improved Ecosystem Overviews by evaluating existing Integrated Environmental Assessment (IEA) Cumulative Impact (or Effect) Assessment (CIA/CEA) approaches with the perspective of extending them to include Ecosystem Services (ES).
This is an opportunity for relevant ICES expert groups to contribute their knowledge on spatial distributions of (sectoral) human activities and ecosystem components (e.g. fish, birds, mammals) as well as the pressure-state relationships that determine potential impacts. In addition, we seek information on the functioning of the various ecosystem components to fill the knowledge gaps that allow us to determine the capacity of those ecosystem components to supply specific ecosystem services. This may require region-specific or generic information and contributions to the pipeline proposal for prioritizing the main stressors, i.e. human activities and their pressures, to help facilitate an extension to enable the assessment of direct impacts on the capacity to supply ecosystem services.
