The environmental interactions group (WGEIA) will seek to prioritize areas where aquaculture management can lead to better environmental performance of the industry.

Better understanding of the interactions between aquaculture and the environment, as well as the resulting effects, is needed to develop the science-based tools for sustainable development and management of this industry.

The working group will develop risk/benefit assessment methods and models to support informed sustainable industry management. Since aquaculture has many interactions with the environment, improved understanding, management and mitigation of risk, and optimization of ecosystem benefits is essential both for the industry and society.
