As an OCCAM Project Partner, ICES will be ready to support a future towards resilient and sustainable aquaculture throughout the Northeast Atlantic, as ICES is committed to better understand and support the sustainable use of marine ecosystems. The overall objective of OCCAM is to implement, test, and evaluate innovative solutions for climate change adaptation and mitigation in the aquaculture sector, and to deliver scalable, replicable, and exploitable solutions with accompanying recommendations ready for deployment in a wide variety of aquaculture supply chains. As an OCCAM Project Partner, ICES will be ready to support a future towards resilient and sustainable aquaculture throughout the Northeast Atlantic, as ICES is committed to better understand and support the sustainable use of marine ecosystems. ICES will build on the project's case studies to strengthen our advice on aquaculture in relation to climate change.

Project objectives:

The overarching objectives of AQUASERV are to bring together, enhance, integrate, and customize research infrastructure capabilities (including facilities, instruments, and expertise). Furthermore, AQUASERV aims to significantly advance the state of scientific research and to promote and facilitate the implementation of European Common Fisheries Policy, the Farm to Fork Strategy, the Sustainable Blue Economy, and the European Green Deal.

AQUASERV will achieve these objectives by providing scientists from academia and business with transnational (on-site or remote) and virtual access to a wide range of of European research infrastructures related to research and management of marine and freshwater biological resources, food, and biotechnology.

Objectives:

The project aims facilitate and streamline the process whereby marine data from whatever source (including national monitoring programmes, research projects and private companies) is delivered on a voluntary basis for safekeeping to data repositories from where it can be freely disseminated.

The new process for data ingestion or capture wil provide a service for public and private entities, including international and regional organisations, who wish to share their data but have not yet been able to do so. The service will be intuitive and easy to use, and will build on available work in cooperation with existing institutions working on such issues.

ICES role:

ICES serves as a point of contact for biological and environmental data.

This project has received funding from the European Commission's European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF).
