The successful candidate will possess a mix of technical skills related to programming languages, but also to databases, project work and the application development cycle. A good technical knowledge in Microsoft Visual Studio, client side languages and some relevant work experience will be required.
ICES coordinates and promotes marine research in the North Atlantic. The ICES Data Centre, maintains some of the world's largest databases on marine fisheries, oceanography, and the marine environment, and its Data Centre is part of a global network of distributed data centres. The ICES network of scientists uses online collaboration tools, such as Microsoft SharePoint which are provided by and supported through the ICES IT team.
The Person
We are looking for someone who has good technical knowledge in a variety of programming languages, and a willingness to develop specifications with end users to deliver solutions. The tasks will either be new builds or redesigns and recoding of existing solutions, and therefore the person we are looking for should be willing to step into existing code and problem solve. Although you will be supported by a senior team member, it is expected that you will work independently, and contribute to the development process and produce results as a member of the Data and Information team. The applicant should possess excellent skills in both oral and written communication in English, as this is the working language of the organisation.

- Transforming user specifications into deployed solutions
- Redesigning existing solutions under the supervision of data scientists/analysts
- Identifying gaps in processes, debugging and error catching of major data centre programmes and contributing to resolve them
Qualifications and experience
- Excellent knowledge of ASP.NET, C#, VB and XML Web Services,Visual Studio
- Good front end skills (JavaScript, HTML and CSS etc.)
- Good knowledge of database systems, preferably MS-SQL
Terms of appointment
The post is full time (38 hours) and the appointment is for an initial term of 1½ years. The salary is dependent on experience and is based on, but not identical to, that of UN's C7 up to P I grade and is exempt from Danish income tax. A pension scheme is available.
