Intern to assist with ASC 2017

Use your administration skills to help international scientists share their research and ideas.

​We are looking for an intern to assist with our 2017 Annual Science Conference (ASC). The ASC takes place in September with hundreds of attendees from around the world gathering to evaluate scientific progress, develop new ideas, establish partnerships, and plan future work on a wide variety of marine topics.

The ASC intern will work closely with the Conference and Training Coordinator at the ICES Secretariat located in central Copenhagen, Denmark.

Main responsibilities 

We need a talented student with a flair for administration to help us with tasks such as:

  • managing participant registrations for presenters
  • organizing abstracts submitted by conference presenters (incl. formatting and sharing with conference participants)
  • administrating new, web-based theme session schedule
  • working together with the communications and IT teams to make the ASC website more user friendly
  • posting announcements on the website and social media
  • other communications and administration tasks, as time allows

Qualifications and experience

We are looking for someone who is:

  • currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a recognized higher educational programme in a discipline related to marine science, administration, or event management
  • experienced in administration and coordination
  • highly organized and has an eye for detail
  • knowledgeable of Microsoft Office suite (familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint very desirable)
  • possesses strong English language skills (speaking, reading, writing)

Terms of appointment

This internship is part-time (20 hours per week) and based at the ICES Secretariat in Copenhagen, Denmark. The preferred period for this position is early June 2017 to late September 2017. (Dates are somewhat negotiable based on the needs and study schedule of the intern.) 

This internship is an unpaid position and it is the intern's responsibility to arrange for their own accommodation and living expenses in Copenhagen.
