HR Officer (maternity cover)

We are seeking an enthusiastic person as a maternity cover in the role of HR Officer at the ICES Secretariat, located in Copenhagen, Denmark.

​The HR Officer supports the work of the Secretariat staff (approximately 60 employees) and is responsible for general staff issues.  

Further responsibilities for this role include:

  • Help develop and implement policies relating to Secretariat staff
  • Assist line managers to understand and implement policies and procedures as well as analyse needs and plan strategies related to staff resources
  • Maintain relations with Danish authorities, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • Execute full recruitment process (preparing job adverts, organizing panel, checking applications, shortlisting, interviewing, and orientation)
  • Continue the organization of digital filing and updating intranet page with general information for staff
  • Further develop the use of Agresso for staff related information
  • Elaborate reports with statistics on work related issues (working time, flex, TOIL, PEAK, sickness, etc).
  • In general, deal with, follow-up and promote staff well-being in the Secretariat
  • Hold bi-weekly status meetings with the General Secretary

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited university
  • At least 5 years’ working experience in a field related to human resources or administration
  • ​​Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent (native level) English grammatical, reading, and writing language skills
  • An eye for detail and highly organized, with an ability to manage several tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of applications and familiar with SharePoint
  • Proven ability to work in a team, with colleagues from diverse national and cultural backgrounds
  • Proactive approach to work, continuously seeking ways to help

Terms of appointment

The appointment will be full-time (38 hours per week), in the period of February to December 2019.

ICES Secretariat staff enjoy privileges and immunities pursuant to the Host Agreement between the Government of Denmark and ICES. The salaries of ICES staff are exempt from Danish income tax and the salary for this role is at the “C5" grade, which is based on the United Nations common salary system.

Furthermore, a tax-free pension scheme is available, to which both the employee and ICES contribute. ICES Staff Rules set out the conditions and principles of employment and the responsibilities of the staff of the Secretariat.
