Vacancy for a communications assistant with a special focus on visual design

Do you have a passion for the environment and want to help spread scientific research and ideas? We are seeking a new Communications Assistant for our Secretariat in Copenhagen, Denmark.

ICES is an intergovernmental organization that develops science, advice, and related data products to support the sustainable use of the oceans.  Our communications team plays an essential role in keeping the scientific network and stakeholders informed of the organization's latest activities. 

Main responsibilities

  • Design scientific publications as well as material for science outreach, such as brochures, infographics, and posters
  • Ensure that the visual identity of ICES is cohesive across all the communications channels
  • Write news articles for the website
  • Update and edit website and social media content
  • Organize early career scientist and student events at the Annual Science Conference
  • Assist with organizing outreach events

Qualifications and experience

  • Experience in designing print and online products and quality management in publishing
  • Experience in digital communications (writing for the web and social media)
  • Highly organized, with an ability to manage several tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent English language skills (speaking, reading, writing)
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and design software tools such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop; knowledge of SharePoint an asset
  • Ability to work in a team with people from diverse national and cultural backgrounds
  • Degree from an accredited university programme in graphic design, communications or relevant discipline

Terms of appointment

The contract period for this position is 4 years and the preferred start date is 2 October 2017.

ICES Secretariat staff enjoy privileges and immunities pursuant to the Host Agreement between the Government of Denmark and ICES. The salaries of ICES staff are exempt from Danish income tax and are based on, but not identical to, UN grade scales. A pension scheme and supplemental insurance plan are offered as part of the remuneration package.
