A bright future for marine science in the Baltic Sea
BONUS is an EU 6th Framework Programme ERANET project with a total funding of 3.03 million euro for the years 2004–2007. The project brings together the key research funding organisations in all EU Member States around the Baltic Sea.
The aim is to form a network and partnership of key agencies funding research to deepen the understanding of conditions for science-based management of environmental issues in the Baltic Sea. BONUS operates in close connection with the scientists and managers and involves Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Sweden, Russia, and ICES. For more information see: http://www.bonusportal.org
As a follow on from BONUS there will also be BONUS-169 which will be part of the EU 7th Framework Programme.
BONUS-169 will run from 2007-2011 and involve the same countries.
Science plan now available
The project will build upon the work completed by BONUS and set up a transnational research programme for the Baltic Sea region. As part of this a draft science plan has now been completed - download science plan
BONUS-169 will work on a number of main themes: science and policy; climate change; eutrophication; sustainability of fisheries; biodiversity; pollution and ecosystem health; and ecosystem and society. A key part of the project will be communication of the results to the wider world.
