​​​​​​​​​Symposium's goal:

  • to provide new evidence on historical perspectives on living marine resources, their exploitation/consumption levels and related human behaviour
  • to help to identify types and patterns of marine population and ecosystem responses to various natural and anthropogenic forcings and evaluate consequences in an interdisciplinary manner (by involving expertise in various disciplines in marine research, archaelogy, mathematical modeling and socio-economy)
  • to assist further identify historical baselines and assist setting quantitative targets for ecosystem-based management

Themes:

  • historical changes in values, perceptions and governance of marine systems
  • changes in human demographic, technological, economic, and cultural drivers of marine resource use
  • the role of gender in marine resource use and impact
  • integrating population and ecological modelling into marine historical ecology
  • historical case studies from Asia, Africa, and Central and South America
  • historical scientific expeditions around the world
