This year's training line-up has been set in stone, and interested potential participants can now register online for a range of courses of varying technical and scientific speciality – from stock assessment to geostatistics through to communicating science and advice.

The ever-popular ‘Stock Assessment (Introduction)’ and ‘Stock Assessment (advanced)’ courses make a return as does ‘Application of Geostatistics in an Ecosystem Approach’. The new ‘Design and Analysis of Catch Sampling Programmes’, meanwhile, targets those in the field of data collection and will introduce invaluable basic standards.

Communications and effective meetings are on the agenda in June in the shape of two short courses – 'Communicating Science and Advice' and 'How to Lead an Effective Technical Meeting' – which complement each other but which can equally be taken separately.

Away from the ICES Secretariat, there will also be a five-day workshop entitled 'Introduction to Bayesian Inference in Fishery Science' taking place prior to the ICES co-organized 'Ecological Basis of Risk Analysis for Marine Ecosystems' symposium (2-4 June) in Helsinki, Finland.

ICES Training Courses seek to provide a platform for scientists, researchers, and students on which they can enhance their scientific knowledge, strengthen their career, and build connections throughout the network whilst taking advantage of the skills and knowledge available within the ICES community.
