Prix d’Excellence Award
This award recognizes the highest level of achievement in marine sciences.  It recognizes important contributions to the ICES vision of “An international scientific community that is relevant, responsive, sound and credible, concerning marine ecosystems and their relation to humanity”. Like the community ICES envisions, the Award is broader than ICES. Contributions within the ICES region and throughout the world are recognized. Candidates for this award need not have had an association with ICES, although their work and achievements will be relevant. They will have contributed to the sustained use and conservation of marine ecosystems through their research, scientific leadership and/or leadership in the objective application of science to policy. Innovation, teamwork, mentoring, and objective communication with the public exemplify the career of the recipient of this award.

The ICES Prix d Excellence Award generally will be made every third year. However, it will be awarded only if there is a candidate who fulfils the high standard intended for the Award. Under exceptional circumstances the Award may be made more often with approval of the Council. Travel expenses to the ASC to receive the award will be paid from revenue from the ASC registration fee, and the recipient’s registration fee will be waived in the future.

Outstanding Achievement Award
This Award recognizes sustained, outstanding performance and contributions by a member of the ICES community whose career has been distinguished by a sustained commitment to excellence in endeavours of science, research, and leadership.

The Outstanding Achievement Award represents the highest expression of recognition and appreciation for contributions to ICES and/or advancing ICES science. Collectively, the individual’s contributions will have broadly touched and enriched the ICES community and ICES programmes over a sustained period, generally at least 15 years. Leadership will have been demonstrated by the individual’s achievements and sustained commitment to building ICES as a vibrant international institution adapted to future needs, or enhancing the interests of ICES to its clients. Recognition will emphasize contributions to science and research and its application to policy, and/or management of ICES as an institution. Additionally, the Award recognizes efforts in support of colleagues and mentoring of young scientists.

One Outstanding Achievement Award may be presented per year.

Travel expenses to the ASC to receive the award will be paid from revenue from the ASC registration fee, and the recipient s registration fee will be waived in the future.
