An ICES-NASCO Symposium on
The Interactions between Cultivated
and Wild Diadromous Fish Species

will be held in Boston, USA from 18—21 October 2005 with Lars Petter Hansen (
Norway)
and Malcolm Windsor (NASCO) as Co-Conveners.

priority:

This is pressingly urgent because of the amount of new information that has become available in recent years. It will also provide a strong initial impetus to the work of the new Diadromous Fish Committee

Scientific Justification:

This would complement a number of symposia on this topic  (notably in 1991 and 1997), which have published significant proceedings. The Symposium could also be opened to a broader mariculture and marine fisheries audience to provide a wide scope for papers and participation

Relation to Strategic Plan:

The promotion and support of symposia directly related to the work of one or more of the ICES Committees is implicit in the ICES Action and Strategic Plans

Resource Requirements:

It is anticipated that selection of the papers from the symposium will be suitable for publication in a dedicated issue of the ICES Journal of Marine Science in 2006. The Convenors will approach the ICES Journal editor and Publications Committee to confirm and finalise these arrangements, and also the co-sponsors after they have been identified.
