Published: 20 July 2017

ICES Training Programme offers courses by high-profile scientists and instructors. The objective of our training is quality assurance in the advisory process. Recognizing the advantages of distance learning, ICES seeks to expand its training offerings to include online courses.

Together with the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), ICES is developing a MOOC (massive online open course) on oceanography. The course agenda is planned and content is ready, and we seek a multi-talented Online Training Coordinator to help make this MOOC a reality. The Online Training Coordinator will be responsible for turning the prepared content into a concrete product—organizing the slides and lectures into a cohesive story, preparing accompanying videos and quizzes, and uploading content to hosting site.

The Online Training Coordinator will work closely together with Anna Davies, the ICES Conference and Training Coordinator, as well as our partners at DTU. Examples of other DTU MOOC offerings can be viewed on Coursera

Key responsibilities

  • Create short videos, quizzes, and ad content for the course
  • Organize and help with the recording of lectures
  • Quality control course content to ensure a cohesive product
  • Check materials for copyright issues
  • Be responsible for uploading content to hosting site Coursera

Required qualifications

  • Experience with adult learning, specifically university level education (not necessarily as a teacher, but understanding of the language, culture, and level of university lectures)
  • Experience with online learning tools, especially Coursera, is an asset
  • Experience in video recording and editing
  • Insight into communication and dissemination
  • Familiarity with subject of oceanography
  • Excellent English communication skills
  • Willingness to travel infrequently to international meetings and conferences

We offer an open, friendly and at times hectic working environment that challenges everyone to contribute their best to our common goals.

Terms of appointment

The appointment will be full-time (38 hours per week), for a contract period starting 1 September 2017 and ending 28 February 2018.

ICES Secretariat staff enjoy privileges and immunities pursuant to the Host Agreement between the Government of Denmark and ICES. The salaries of ICES staff are exempt from Danish income tax and are based on, but not identical to, UN grade scales.  A pension scheme is available. The ICES Staff Rules set out the conditions and principles of employment and the responsibilities of the staff of the ICES Secretariat.
