ICES Data Centre internship

Would you like to help shape the future of scientific research cooperation? The ICES Data Centre is currently seeking informatics/geoinformatics students for internships.

We are seeking talented informatics/geoinformatics students for internships dealing with the Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance Support Action (AORAC) project—an initiative of the European Commission's Blue Growth Strategy. The internship will focus on establishing a long-term online knowledge sharing platform for Atlantic Ocean research. 

Initial tasks would include:

  • Gathering technical information from relevant European Knowledge information systems through desktop study and direct contact;
  • Preparing electronic overviews/templates i.e. through a CMS or Database based on information from existing systems (i.e., EMODnet thematic portals);
    • Including operational basis, platform and content ownership, geographical and temporal scope, content, analytic capacities, data sources, sustainability, and ease of information transfer between systems; and
  • Assisting in setting up workshops with users and providers of information systems.​

Skills we expect:

  • A strong understanding of data/information analysis and relevant software (i.e., database tools);
  • Knowledge in data and information technologies used in portals (i.e., WMS, WFS, REST);
  • A methodical and structured approach;
  • Solid communication skills in English; and
  • High social competence and the ability to work in an international environment.

What we can offer:

The internship can be either part-time or full-time, with the desired starting date being as soon as possible. There is no pay in connection with the internship, however, it can be customized to your fit your educational needs and ECTS requirements. This project is expected to continue for several years and for an intern who shows great talent and interest, there is the potential to transition into paid student work at the end of the internship period.

The primary workplace is the ICES Secretariat, located at H.C. Andersens Boulevard 44-46, 1553 Copenhagen. Joining ICES, you will be working together with an international team of over 50 professionals. We offer an open, friendly, energetic, and fast-paced working environment.
