ICES Annual Science Conference 2021

Theme session R

Scientific advances under ICES Science Plan

Tuesday 7 September
18:00-20:00 CEST

The intent of this session is to allow broad dissemination of important new research in science areas that are not represented by other Annual Science Conference theme sessions. This increases the scope of the ASC and fosters the establishment of more multidisciplinary scientific work and links between scientists.

This session is open to contributions relevant to any of the seven priorities of ICES Science Plan:

  • Ecosystem science
  • Impacts of human activities
  • Observation and exploration
  • Emerging techniques and technologies
  • Seafood production
  • Conservation and management science
  • Sea and society

We welcome papers on all these topics. Papers on aquaculture, oceanography, development and application of new technologies, and marine chemistry are especially welcome this year because they are important topics for ICES but are not the central focus of theme sessions.

All submissions to this session will be assessed on the basis of relevance and scientific excellence (direct submissions). In addition, we will consider abstracts rejected from other sessions on grounds of topic (indirect submissions). The contributed papers session will be organized by topic, depending on the range of contributions accepted. Abstracts submitted to this session should have a broader context than just one species or one geographic location and should emphasise the relevance of the findings to the wider marine science community.
