Data Submission

Before submission of the data they have to pass through a data screening program. The format of the datasets, the checks that are applied and the correct names of the species with TSN and NODC codes (to be downloaded for conversion) can be found in reporting formats.

All references codes in ICES are stored in one database together with the links between the different codes, the codes relevant to trawl surveys start with "TS_" excepts codes which are used for both fisheries and environmental data (the code types are: datasets, dataset version, gear, statistical rectangle).

A conversion program exists to convert the former fix width format to the new csv format

Species
In the future ICES will use the TSN codes when storing species information as the NODC codes are no longer updated. ICES has a copy of the ITIS database with the TSN and NODC codes and one can search: Species codes: TSN/NODC

Most countries are still using NODC codes and ICES will therefore accept data delivered with NODC codes. However, some codes are no longer legal. A list of species where the NODC codes are illegal or where there is no TSN code can be downloaded here.
